Some spaces are extremely well served by one Sofa, whether it’s a huge, room defining Corner Sofa, or a more conventional horizontal 2 or 3-seater.

However, some spaces, and some customers, run into the issue of initially thinking their main Sofa is enough but then consistently feeling pushed for seating space, especially when having guests over or when the whole family is relaxing or spending time together in the same room.

In scenarios like this, especially in a more spacious room, a natural but often neglected solution may be to look into getting a second Sofa. In this article we’d like to look at some of the considerations that might cause undue hesitation here, and help you figure out if this might be the right move for you

Will it take up too much room?

Perhaps you’re thinking that, despite a lack of seating space, you do not have room for a second Sofa. This may well be true, and every situation is unique, but it’s certainly not true as often as you might think. We’ll be looking a lot at our 2 seaters, because in addition to being smaller than 3 seaters in general, a lot of our 2-seater Sofas are particularly compact and space-efficient. Many of these designs dispense with traditional armrests to cut down on bulk and give you that much more seating area. Also common is a shallow yet still extremely comfortable and reliable backboard, meaning the Sofa also takes up a minimum of space in terms of depth.

The Sofas shown below (The Bart, Flora, and Hanna from left to right) are excellent examples of these features. Notice how the they’re not the space-hoggers you may have been imagining at first. There’s no unnecessary clutter that serves no purpose, yet there’s still distinct and pleasing styles and identity.

Will it clash with my other furniture?

If you’ve already purchased a Sofa without considering the possibility of another, or your room already has a cohesive and cultivated style, you may worry about finding extra seating that won’t throw off the balance, disrupt the colour palette, and diminish the whole. This is absolutely not a concern for J&B’s Sofa range.

For one thing, the J&B range spans a stunning breadth of different styles. Whatever your present décor looks like, you’ll find something that not only suits your existing aesthetic, but enhances it substantially. See the overall stylistic contrast of a few of our smaller Sofas below(from left to right the Lula, Rome, and Clara).

But that’s not all. Not only does the keenly designed variety of our range’s underlying styles mean you can always find one that suits your home, but with J&B’s customizable upholstery you can always get your Sofa in the precise colour and upholstered in the exact type of fabric that directly matches your rooms current look, from hundreds of different options for each Sofa. From cool blue leather to cream felt to somber red Easy Clean fabric, plus bespoke combination schemes, you’ll get your Sofa, your way, making for the perfect aesthetic contribution to your space.

Would an Armchair Work?

It certainly might, and it’s a matter of circumstance. But be careful. While an armchair can be ideal if you need just one extra seat, armchairs are generally not space-efficient. They are usually bulky, yielding relatively little seating for the amount of space they take up in your room. A 2-Seater Sofa provides more seating area and generally takes up less space than 2 armchairs, and for similarly comfortable armchairs it’s usually cheaper.

Is it worth it?

Maybe all this sounds great, but you’re not quite thinking that the general price point is worth it, even for additional seating you frequently find yourself wanting. Well one key piece of information, that may well change that, is that by far most J&B Sofas, of any size, are also Sofa Beds. In fact all the Sofas pictured here are Sofa beds, unfolding quickly and effortlessly into a Bed form that is invariably every bit as comfortable and high-quality they are as a Sofa.

If your current Sofa is not a Sofa bed, this means you would not just be getting extra seating, but a whole new world of functionality for your home. The possibility of quickly converting one of your Sofas into a bed for guests, naps, or even just a different way to relax. You’re getting so much more than just a direct solution to your seating shortage.
