5 ways to improve your kids/teenagers’ room: back to school
With your children going back to school you want to set them up for the best future by giving them a clean functioning working environment. This is especially important for your young teens just entering secondary school and your exam year students. However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t important for children of all ages to not have their own space to allow for them to grow and develop. That’s why it’s vital to provide the essentials they need to grow into the best them they can be, but how can we do this and how can furniture help create the perfect space for your child. Here are the five ways how you can create a perfect bedroom and space.
1 - Keep it simple
You want a room where your child/teenager can grow in and develop their personality as their mind is likely to change on their likes and dislikes, so it is always a good idea to paint your walls rather than use wallpaper. This is also true of the colours that you choose to use in the room keeping the wall colours plain allows you to introduce pops of colour to accessories and furniture. This will allow them to put their stamp on it. As if they need a new wardrobe, shelves, or curtains they will be able to have a choice in the ideas and selection of furniture and items to express themselves.
Now that the walls are redecorated a helpful tip for your child who wants to hang ornaments, posters, or pictures on the wall is to avoid using Sellotape or glue but to use products such as blue tac or evil peel mounts. This avoids damaging the walls and your teenager will be thankful for being able to personalise their living area.
2 – Sleep tight
It's been found that children at the age of 3 should move from a crib to a children's bed and then move from a children's size bed into an adult size bed as a pre-teen & teen. The transition from child to teenager can be a tough experience, but having a warm, comfortable, and inviting bed can be a helpful process for them in this stage of their life. In saying this the matresses are as important as the bed frame. Sleep is an important factor for a child’s development as it is vital to their growth physically and mentally.
3 - Study Area
This area will aid in the child's homework and studying and is more suitable for older children/ teens. Having a desk in their room will provide a safe and quiet space for them to study without distraction, in saying this it will also present an opportunity for them to develop responsibility. You will want to encourage them to study hard and do their best, so dedicating a study area in their room equipped with a desk and chair is a great way to set that example.
4 - Storage, Storage Storage!
Throughout their lives, children will gather a lot of items, toys, and clothes. Due to this, it can lead to a lot of clutter you'll need to find creative storage solutions from vertical storage to hidden storage in beds.
In our furniture ranges, we have many options for optimising space in a room and creating storage opportunities. An example of furniture that is both space-saving and provides ample storage is the corner wardrobe this can then be paired with other options from across the ranges that slot into each other to create stunning interiors to brighten up their room.
5 - Space for friends to hang out
Chances are when your child/teenager has friends over they may not want to hang out in the living room or kitchen. So creating a private space for them in their room is an ideal solution. A great way to do this if space allows it is by having an area that is decorated in soft textiles or rugs along with a seating area. Some will choose a small sofa or bean bags, but cousins and a soft flooring can be just as good.
Overall, creating a room that uses simple colours with lots of storage will allow them to grow and express themselves in their home. It's also important to include the relaxing and study area as these areas will be important for their social and academic life. This little guide will help you make a room that will allow them to meet all their needed requirements and develop into the person they were born to be.
